THEBLACKBOYPROJECT.
portraits.
May/June 2016
This project follows the black male experience in a Quaker and private High School where students are predominantly white. Although males are historically the majority, black males are the minority. We chose to interview our black male peers and discuss their understanding of themselves in within our community. Filmmaker Olivia Haynes and I were motivated to delve into this topic of identity because we feel like their voices tend to be unheard by us and others. We want to understand our black male peers better and represent them the way we see them and the way they see themselves. We love them.

These photos were taken in a conducted interview space where the boys were asked about their experiences while simultaneously being filmed and photographed on an individual basis.
